We were honored to host an ASID event at our Native Citizen Montrose showroom for the very first time, and the energy in the room made it unforgettable.

ASID, the American Society of Interior Designers, plays an important role in shaping the interior design community. Partnering with the ASID's Texas Gulf Coast Chapter allowed us to welcome designers, creatives, and industry partners who share a passion for thoughtful, well-made spaces.

Throughout the evening, our showroom became a place for meaningful conversations about the materials and services that bring interiors to life. Stone surfaces, custom cabinetry, sound treatment, and architectural details were all part of the dialogue, highlighting how layered and collaborative great design can be. These elements work together to create spaces that feel intentional, functional, and lived in.

What stood out most were the moments themselves. Designers exchanging ideas. Quiet corners now filled with energetic conversations. Beautiful connections were forming inside a space designed to inspire. It was a reminder of why we do what we do: creating environments where people can gather, share, and imagine what is possible.

We are grateful to ASID for trusting us as a host and to everyone who joined us at the Montrose showroom. This evening marked the beginning of more community-driven events that we look forward to hosting.

A rug is more than just a floor covering. It is a statement piece that anchors a room, adds texture, and brings warmth and personality to your home. Choosing the right rug can feel overwhelming, but by considering shape, size, color, and pattern, you can find the perfect fit for your space. 1. Consider the Shape The shape of your rug should complement your furniture layout. Rectangular rugs are the most versatile and work well in living rooms, dining areas, and bedrooms. Square rugs are ideal for cozy nooks or under a small table. Round rugs add softness to a space with angular furniture and are perfect for entryways or breakfast nooks. Runner rugs are long and narrow and work well in hallways, kitchens, or in front of a sofa. Think about how the shape interacts with the room and furniture. A well-placed rug helps define the space. 2. Get the Size Right A rug that is too small can make a room feel disconnected, while an oversized rug can overwhelm the space. Some guidelines: Living Room: All key furniture pieces such as sofa, chairs, and coffee table should sit fully or partially on the rug. Dining Room: The rug should extend at least 24 inches beyond the table on all sides so chairs can move comfortably. Bedroom: A large rug under the bed should extend at least 18 to 24 inches around the sides and foot of the bed for balance. Measure carefully and imagine how furniture will interact with the rug before making a decision. 3. Choose Colors That Complement Your Space Rugs can blend with your existing palette or become a statement piece. Neutral rugs add warmth and texture without competing with other decor. Bold colors bring energy and vibrancy to a room. Layering colors works well. Choose a rug that complements the tones in your furniture, walls, and artwork. Pay attention to undertones. A rug with subtle warm or cool undertones can harmonize your space even if the color looks slightly different in the swatch. 4. Play With Patterns and Texture Patterns and textures make a room feel dynamic and layered. Geometric patterns add modern flair and structure. Subtle patterns are good for layering or creating a calm, understated look. Textures like wool, jute, or boucle add depth and tactile interest. When mixing patterns, keep scale in mind. Pair large patterns with smaller ones and use neutral colors to balance a busy design. 5. Think About Traffic Consider the room and how it will be used. High-traffic areas like entryways or living rooms benefit from durable, stain-resistant materials such as wool, power loomed, or performance rugs, which are designed to hold up to everyday wear. Low-traffic spaces like bedrooms or home offices allow for softer, more textured materials such as handwoven or plush wool rugs that feel comfortable underfoot.  Maintenance matters. Power loomed and synthetic rugs are typically easier to clean, while wool and handwoven rugs may require more care or professional cleaning. Start with a larger neutral rug and layer a smaller patterned or textured rug on top. Mix materials to add warmth and depth. A good layering piece is a cowhide rug that adds natural texture and a bold, organic element to a space. Each one is unique, with natural variations in color and pattern.  Choosing the right rug is about balancing size, shape, color, pattern, and texture to suit your lifestyle and style preferences. With the right approach, your rug can transform any room into a space that feels intentional, comfortable, and uniquely yours.
