A Whole New World at Montrose: Native Citizen

A Whole New World at Montrose: Native Citizen

There is more to explore at Native Citizen. We have officially gathered all the space for expansion at the NC Montrose showroom. An entirely new area was designed to inspire your next home project from every angle. Whether you are refreshing a single room or starting from the ground up, this newly imagined design studio and furniture showroom will help you envision what is possible in the heart of Houston's Montrose. Designed With Intention For Lead Designer, William Shoemaker, this expansion was never just about adding more product. It was about creating clarity and openness. The goal was to make the Montrose showroom feel more expansive and approachable, allowing guests to move through the space effortlessly and experience the full picture of what Native Citizen does. The layout was reimagined so visitors can touch and feel the product, understand the quality of Four Hands pieces we use in our design services, and see how everything works together. William’s vision has always been to show how Native Citizen designs are built. Not around one single aesthetic, but around a thoughtful mix. Rather than specializing in one design style, Native Citizen approaches interiors like a mixologist. Different periods of furniture. Layered textures. Contrasting materials. Unexpected combinations that feel collected and personal. The new expansion allows that philosophy to be seen more clearly, with room for each piece to breathe and each story to unfold. More Room to Design Our newest expansion features an expanded selection of furniture from the Four Hands Collection, thoughtfully styled kitchen island, accent chairs, more sample rugs, beds, art, and home inspiration. Each piece is curated to reflect our signature balance of warmth, texture, and timeless design. You will also find wallpapers stored in the new section. Seeing patterns and textures installed in person transforms the way you envision your walls.  The Gallery Hallway Our art gallery hallway is still under works, but imagine a walkthrough, a transition designed to feel immersive and inspiring. This curated passage will allow us to feature even more local artists alongside new Four Hands art installations, bringing together a thoughtful blend of local creativity and elevated design. We are excited to introduce our new Houston artists in more blogs soon such as Marlene Stubler (stay up-to-date by subscribing to our emails). We are especially excited to showcase works from Four Hands artists such as Caroline Pinney and Paul Meyer, whose textured, dimensional pieces add depth and emotion to every wall. The gallery is meant to slow you down, let you look closer, and discover something unexpected. A Whole New World at Montrose This expansion is more than added square footage. It is a reflection of how we design, how we curate, and how we want you to experience home. More openness.More inspiration.More ways to imagine what is possible. Step into a whole new world at Montrose. We cannot wait for you to see it.

Hosting ASID at Native Citizen

Hosting ASID at Native Citizen

We were honored to host an ASID event at our Native Citizen Montrose showroom for the very first time, and the energy in the room made it unforgettable. ASID, the American Society of Interior Designers, plays an important role in shaping the interior design community. Partnering with the ASID's Texas Gulf Coast Chapter allowed us to welcome designers, creatives, and industry partners who share a passion for thoughtful, well-made spaces. Throughout the evening, our showroom became a place for meaningful conversations about the materials and services that bring interiors to life. Stone surfaces, custom cabinetry, sound treatment, and architectural details were all part of the dialogue, highlighting how layered and collaborative great design can be. These elements work together to create spaces that feel intentional, functional, and lived in. What stood out most were the moments themselves. Designers exchanging ideas. Quiet corners now filled with energetic conversations. Beautiful connections were forming inside a space designed to inspire. It was a reminder of why we do what we do: creating environments where people can gather, share, and imagine what is possible. We are grateful to ASID for trusting us as a host and to everyone who joined us at the Montrose showroom. This evening marked the beginning of more community-driven events that we look forward to hosting. Let us know: What is your favorite part of home design? Love the home inspiration you're seeing? New NC Studio Expansion in Progress!

New NC Studio Expansion in Progress!

Native Citizen has long called Montrose home, and this fall marks an exciting new chapter. By October, our design studio will be tripling in size! Our current studio has always been loved for its eclectic and soulful style, and now we’re taking that spirit into a much larger space where we can showcase even more design inspiration. Stepping into Demolition Phase! What’s Coming with the Expansion We’re opening up two additional studio rooms behind our current setup. That means knocking down walls (yes, even studded ones!) to create new walkways and entries that flow seamlessly into our expanded showroom. To set the mood, the new walls will be painted in a deep peppercorn shade—perfect for creating moody, styled vignettes.  With the added studio space, we’re bringing curated pieces from Four Hands—ranging from bold statement works to subtle, textured art that ties a room together. The expanded collection will allow us to showcase a wider variety of styles, giving our clients more inspiration and options to create meaningful, art-filled spaces. More to See and Explore With more space comes more room for standout pieces. You’ll see large furniture additions such as bed frames, kitchen islands, office desks, and expanded dining options. Our showroom will also highlight new statement lighting—including ceiling pendants, table lamps, and floor lamps—that bring warmth and character to any space. Take a peak at the new collection at Four Hands. We’re also introducing a new ladies’ powder room featuring a Four Hands vanity and mirrors, plus plenty of fresh inspiration for living rooms with new sofas, accent chairs, and coffee tables. Elegant wall panels will help divide the space and create unique moments throughout the studio. Finishing Touches No design is complete without the details. Our expansion will also include new accessories to browse like wallpapers, throw pillows, and more—perfect for adding layers of texture and personality to your home. And the excitement doesn’t stop there! We’re preparing an outdoor section for January 2026, so you’ll soon be able to browse outdoor furniture pieces styled right in our showroom. Event Spotlight- Talking Trash With Mobi Waste

Event Spotlight- Talking Trash With Mobi Waste

Native Citizen recently had the pleasure of hosting an event that got everyone talking—about trash. But not in the way you might think. Mobi Waste, started when Lane, son of Stacy Richardson (founder) was asked to help build a mobile onsite, waterless device that reduces the volume of trash by up to 70%. Now, they are redefining what it means to manage waste. Stacy's son came up with the concept as a student—designing a patented, waterless system that breaks down trash to a fraction of its original size. We saw a bin holding a sliver of shredded plastic, when in fact, it was holding 60 water bottles! Beyond Waste Reduction – Creating a Circular Economy Mobi Waste doesn’t just shrink trash—it transforms it into opportunity. Partnering with schools, businesses, and artists, they’ve created a ripple effect of sustainability and creativity: Artists are using reduced waste in innovative, mixed-media art pieces. Schools can turn materials into school uniforms, and cafeteria food waste into compost. STEM & Entrepreneurship Academy gives students the tools to become leaders and transform discarded resources into new value streams that benefit their schools, communities, and the planet. Businesses benefit from lower trash pickup costs or by repurposing materials into new products. On the non-profit side, Mobi Waste Outreach brings educational programs to schools, inspiring the next generation to take action toward a greener future. The Mission – Give Back. Feed the Earth. Stop the Landfill. Mobi Waste’s philosophy is simple yet powerful:Give it back to the community.Feed the Earth through composting and resource reuse.Make the landfill the last stop for waste that can’t be repurposed. The impact is already being felt locally, with Mobi Waste empowering Women-Owned Waste Solutions (WOWS) in Houston and beyond. Their vision is to scale this model to communities across the country. Movers, Shakers, and Change-Makers Our Native Citizen Studio was buzzing with energy during the event. We welcomed school superintendents, local precinct leaders, bankers, oil and gas executives, and community advocates—all eager to explore how they could play a part in building a cleaner, more sustainable future. Get Involved Mobi Waste and Mobi Waste Outreach have set a fundraising goal of $125,000 to expand their reach, technology, and educational initiatives. Donate here to join the movement toward a zero-waste world.Learn more about Mobi Waste, Inc. or Mobi Waste Outreach and see how you can help transform trash into a valuable resource. Mobi Waste Inc.,  is an innovative woman owned company, focused on reducing overall volumes of food and related waste utilizing a mobile, onsite, waterless, waste reduction device. This patented high torque feed system condenses plastic, paper, Styrofoam, and packaging into consistent particles reducing solid waste 25% to 70%. We were excited to host Mobi Waste's event at our Native Citizen Montrose Studio as it aligns with our values, and we hope to partner for more events in the future. —Native Citizen Team P.S. Native Citizen Takes on Las Vegas Market

Fresh Finds. Future Favorites. If you’re unfamiliar with Market, it's not your typical trade show. The Las Vegas Market is one of the largest and most influential furniture and home design conventions in the U.S.—a major event where brands debut their latest collections, and designers from across the country gather to scout the season’s top trends. This event is only held twice a year, and this year, Native Citizen brought our entire design team to Las Vegas to experience the buzz firsthand. Our mission? To preview what’s coming next, especially from our favorite partners, Four Hands. As one of the largest distributors of Four Hands, we’ve built a longstanding relationship with this brand. Their furniture reflects many of the values we bring into our design services: timeless silhouettes, quality craftsmanship, sustainable materials, and everyday livability. It’s the kind of furniture made to grow with your family—and stand up to even the furriest members of the household. We’re thrilled about what’s coming this season. You’ll likely spot some of these pieces on our studio floor this fall, especially as we continue expanding our studio space to bring even more inspiring setups and product showcases to life.
