Learn moreMaking Sense of Art – Featuring Brendan McKeon
Have you ever wondered what thoughts live behind a work of art? At Native Citizen’s Montrose Studio, we are thrilled to introduce our newest featured artist, Brendan McKeon. His evocative style and soulful pieces have already found a place in the homes of several native citizens in Houston. His work is not just decoration — it is an invitation to pause, feel, and connect. Brendan is a Houston-based artist and a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University with a degree in Fine Arts. For him, art is more than formal training. It is the hundreds of one-of-a-kind pieces he has created (each born from a blank, meditated mind, and not all his artworks are the same either. He describes his artistic style as ever evolving, treating each blank canvas as a new opportunity. “I let my mind wander,” Brendan shares, “pulling different emotions from each session. To allow yourself to feel is the joy of art.” His hope is that his pieces become a companion for the space, something you see every day and continually discover in new ways. “I don't want to navigate the viewer into a defined message. Instead, create your own narrative and sense of it all — art allows connection to feeling.” In our conversation, we reflected on how social media has changed the way we experience art. It has made it more accessible but also more fleeting. We see art daily, often as a quick scroll and swipe moment. Inside the Native Citizen Interior Design Studio, we are reminded that art holds more power when experienced in-person, when you can see each meticulous brushstroke and feel the artist’s intention. We invite you to stop by our Montrose location to experience Brendan McKeon’s work firsthand. These are pieces, both big and small, meant not just to be seen but to be lived with. We are receiving painting every week. The Native Citizen studio displays a collection for all your home needs including furniture, rugs, plants, lights, and more. Talk to a designer to learn more about how we can transform your space, complimentary always. Sincerely, — Native Citizen P.S. Learn moreEvent Spotlight- Talking Trash With Mobi Waste
Native Citizen recently had the pleasure of hosting an event that got everyone talking—about trash. But not in the way you might think. Mobi Waste, started when Lane, son of Stacy Richardson (founder) was asked to help build a mobile onsite, waterless device that reduces the volume of trash by up to 70%. Now, they are redefining what it means to manage waste. Stacy's son came up with the concept as a student—designing a patented, waterless system that breaks down trash to a fraction of its original size. We saw a bin holding a sliver of shredded plastic, when in fact, it was holding 60 water bottles! Beyond Waste Reduction – Creating a Circular Economy Mobi Waste doesn’t just shrink trash—it transforms it into opportunity. Partnering with schools, businesses, and artists, they’ve created a ripple effect of sustainability and creativity: Artists are using reduced waste in innovative, mixed-media art pieces. Schools can turn materials into school uniforms, and cafeteria food waste into compost. STEM & Entrepreneurship Academy gives students the tools to become leaders and transform discarded resources into new value streams that benefit their schools, communities, and the planet. Businesses benefit from lower trash pickup costs or by repurposing materials into new products. On the non-profit side, Mobi Waste Outreach brings educational programs to schools, inspiring the next generation to take action toward a greener future. The Mission – Give Back. Feed the Earth. Stop the Landfill. Mobi Waste’s philosophy is simple yet powerful:Give it back to the community.Feed the Earth through composting and resource reuse.Make the landfill the last stop for waste that can’t be repurposed. The impact is already being felt locally, with Mobi Waste empowering Women-Owned Waste Solutions (WOWS) in Houston and beyond. Their vision is to scale this model to communities across the country. Movers, Shakers, and Change-Makers Our Native Citizen Studio was buzzing with energy during the event. We welcomed school superintendents, local precinct leaders, bankers, oil and gas executives, and community advocates—all eager to explore how they could play a part in building a cleaner, more sustainable future. Get Involved Mobi Waste and Mobi Waste Outreach have set a fundraising goal of $125,000 to expand their reach, technology, and educational initiatives. Donate here to join the movement toward a zero-waste world.Learn more about Mobi Waste, Inc. or Mobi Waste Outreach and see how you can help transform trash into a valuable resource. Mobi Waste Inc., is an innovative woman owned company, focused on reducing overall volumes of food and related waste utilizing a mobile, onsite, waterless, waste reduction device. This patented high torque feed system condenses plastic, paper, Styrofoam, and packaging into consistent particles reducing solid waste 25% to 70%. We were excited to host Mobi Waste's event at our Native Citizen Montrose Studio as it aligns with our values, and we hope to partner for more events in the future. —Native Citizen Team P.S. Learn moreProject Spotlight: A Contemporary Western Haven in Memorial
At Native Citizen, we’re excited to share a recent project that brings together modern sophistication, personal story, and everyday livability—all within an 8,900 sq. ft. residence in Memorial. Designed for a tailored, masculine, contemporary look with warmth and functionality, this home is a beautiful expression of layered textures, personal artifacts, and curated styling that reflects how they truly live. Living with Intention To bring structure and flow to the open-concept first floor, we created a series of thoughtful zones that feel both luxurious and approachable. In the main living area, jewel-toned chairs and smoky glass end tables surround a classic linen sofa, anchored by a heavy, sculptural coffee table. Draped curtains draw the eye upward to soaring ceilings, while warm textures—leather, wood, amber glass—bring comfort and depth. Western-inspired touches tell the story of the homeowner’s roots: artwork in rich reds and browns, cowboy motifs, and a photograph of the family ranch in Waco add authenticity and meaning. A sculptural wood-and-stone bench, Santorini floor lamp, and collected abstract art round out the space with refined individuality. Kitchen Warmth & Family Flow The kitchen is designed for connection. An intimate two-chair vignette creates a quiet moment (perfect for a casual father-son meal over takeout) while leather counter stools line the island under a statement floral pendant. A custom installed clock adds character, and the breakfast area features the round wood-and-marble Bibianna dining table, surrounded by driftwood-inspired wall art for a grounded, organic feel. Goose’s Domain The pool house doubles as a playful extension of the home, centered around the family’s beloved dog, Goose. A roomy lounge chair, a coffee table filled with toys, and a custom “Goose” neon light make this space unmistakably his. Abstract art and bar-height stools continue the story of casual sophistication and color continuity. Elevated Entertaining At the foot of the grand staircase sits a custom 14-seat dining table, perfectly scaled for family gatherings. The space is anchored by a commissioned neutral-toned artwork and a favorite hand-selected rug from designer William Shoemaker, both balancing scale with softness. To the left of the entry, a dramatic study features near-ceiling bookshelves styled with intention. Every piece tells a story, from the rich wood grain of the desk to the character-filled desk chair. Upstairs Moments & Memories A bronze statue of Archangel Michael greets you at the staircase beneath an elaborate metal chain hanging pendant. Upstairs, a lounge and theater room showcase sports memorabilia and cherished family items. Jerseys, photos, and shadowboxes are all proudly displayed. The guest and children’s bedrooms are just as thoughtful. A soft, curved design defines the daughter’s room, while the son’s room features stone, metal, and a framed James Bond print. Even the nightstands double as shadowboxes to highlight treasured keepsakes. Stylish table lamps, bold artwork, and sculptural mirrors give each room a refined, hospitality-like finish. Every room in this home balances beauty with function, comfort with story. It’s a space designed for hosting, gathering, relaxing—and most importantly—living fully. We couldn't fit all our photos on the blog. See more on our Instagram! — Native Citizen Team P.S.
